The 4 Moves

Since we are committed to contemplative practice and dialogue as a means of transformation and motivation to serve our world we feel strongly about hosting space where these 4 Moves critical to the development of every follower of Jesus can happen

For along time the church has operated as though information transmission is equivalent to transformation.  The equation was something like

               Knowing --- Doing/Life Change

What we realize now is our love affair with the information age has often put us at the wrong starting point.  Jesus started with awareness and constantly brought the disciples’ attention to things around them and within them.  Information came by way of heightened awareness and a new a fresh kind of seeing, that in turn led to an emotional engagement that motivated actions.  Jesus in Matthew 9 saw the crowds and saw them as sheep without a shepherd and was moved with compassion…

               Seeing ---- Knowing ---- Sensing ---- Doing

This is one of the reasons why when Jesus came on the scene the first word of his first message was metanoia…meta-large, overarching, above and –noia…mind.  He was inviting the children of Israel into a new mind, a new way of thinking a new view or seeing of reality. 

In keeping with our four primary values we want to host environments where these things can happen.

• Learning Events - these might be one evening or morning that are more weighted toward informational learning.

Things like...

• “A Spirituality of Awareness,”
• “The 4 Elements of Life Transformation,” “
• Lectio Divina as a Way of Living,” “
• Spiritual Direction: Sensing the Movements of God in Your Life,” would all fall into this category.

• Self Discovery Modules – These may be one night learning events or weekend retreats probably have “work” to do in the learning.There might be diagnostics, reading, etc…

• Strengths Finder
• Enneagram are examples

resonate with the pain of the world.  

• Exposure Experiences – These will be one time to longer term commitment opportunities to get touched by the pain for the world.
